 SONGWRITING TIPS

1. THIS SONGWRITING TIP WILL CHANGE THE WAY YOU WRITE

Sometimes we as songwriters can become obsessed with the need for everything to rhyme in our songs. Rhyming is of course, required, but have you tried “near rhyme”? Next time you are writing, try using words with a similar vowel sound. For example, the word BLAME doesn’t have to rhyme with GAME or TRAIN, it can perfectly rhyme with PAGE or CHAIN. By using near rhymes with a similar vowel sound, your songwriting will sound less contrived and more polished and interesting.

2. WHY IMAGERY MATTERS IN YOUR SONGWRITING

To try and hook the listener into the song they need to understand the feeling of your song. Next time you are writing – imagine the scene and try describing it by using sight, sound, taste and smell. This will improve your songwriting skill and you will find it more enjoyable.

3. IS YOUR CHORUS STRONG ENOUGH?

The chorus to your song is the sole reason your song exists. You need to ask yourself this question: “If someone listened to my chorus isolated from the rest of the song, would they understand what the song is about instantly?”
